Yea, every shield in the mix of the cleaver duct tape will also trigger the cleaver chain once, so 3 shields are 3 extra activates. The issue is, that despite no attack triggering, you will still recieve the - damage from shield spirit in the mix. This usually means nothing tho,s ince a single activation already triggers many belt of knifes for all cleavers.  But it can work against you, if you have more pavis than cleaver.

There is definitely some min maxing, also in the way duct tape priority works. For example a cleaver with rage and a cleaver with golden whetstone. I saw a change in damage by swapping around my cleaver, so I would assume that the position in the duct tape line matters and buffs will be used in realtime instead of calculated beforehand. In a big cleaver chain my logic would be to have it trigger rage as early as possible to have as much cleaver beneifit after it. The whetstone cleaver could be in a positon where it would mostly hit at the highest damage of belt of knifes. 

If you use duct tape, the position of shields won't matter. In a chain of duct tape, a common blue cleaver is better for it's 1 extra damage than any other cleaver, as long as the sideways activation is not necessary to trigger a cleaver that isn't part of the same duct tape. 

With belt of knifes tho, the only real thing that matters is how many cleaver activate in one turn on the same duct tape. If you can get energy, every single energy will increase your damage by a huuuuge amount. I can't even test the damage of my third hit, because my 2nd hit already does triple the damage of my first hit. Every extra energy would mean insane damage, but it is very hard to come by.... and .. you are really glad if the cleavers finally stop attacking :D

Put all shields and all cleaver on ducktape and replace hats slowly with more ducktape and cleaver. Every single extra cleaver and shield in the mix multiplies the amount of attacks per energy and the amount of belt of knife activations. -7 damage is on all your weapons can be ignored if you get 150 belt of knife activations.

And this is just turn one, every extra turn the damage stacks further up. My 2nd hit does triple the damage of my first just for comparisson and my first one is already 150k+.

Replacing a shield with a cleaver increased the damage for my by around 30k damage, replacing the hat for a cleaver around 20k. But I settled for 3 shields for 7 activations to stack my haste, but for maximum damage the best setup I think would be all cleaver, all ducktape, one shield. (Tho attacking once can take minutes on max animation speed that way.. :P)

The golden whetstone is a onetime use that increase the weapon by 25% permanently. 

Right side is an energy setup with curses. Every amulet gives 1 energy per curse next to them for the start of the combat. 

Were multiple enemies on screen and you targeted the wrong enemie? I think it was single target

Just try around with items and see if you might just overlook a good common item. The strenght of an item does not just come from raw stats, but also the space they are using. For example, the club is extremely good since it has -1 weakness against multihits, does same damage as wooden sword and frees one space. 

Consumes are also great just to make the floors easier. 12 dmg to all, 6 poison, all the extra turns. This makes it possible to easily farm the floor usually to get a better powerspike for the next floor. 

Reorganizing regulary for optimise item synergies and taking temporary items like machete, even if you throw it away next round, can greatly change how well you are doing, especially early game.

Enchanted swamp is veeeeeery veeery bad against thorns builds and sustain builds. In my 200+ floor I went there once and almost killed my run, because the boss was hit by a single hit of my multi hit chain, while he summons 3 minions every turn.

IMPOSSIBLE to deal with with many many builds, other path is much more straight forward in general.

You would need the relic that activates weapons adjacent to weapons. I posted a screenshot for that in this comments, but it would make defense and offense at the same and make the cleaver cost just 1. The negative effect can be easily avoided with cleaver.

But unless you are able to kill both of the front guys, you will probably die. You would need something like the stone that adds weakness to your weapon to deal with your setup and reduce their damage by a lot.

You probably didn't see it. If a battle ends and you get your items, there will also be gold and manacrystals next to your inventory that you can drag in. Once you got gold in your backpack, it will collect it automatically.

This is my most fun build so far, tho at this point, it takes around a minute until a single turn is over(even if the enemy is long dead) because of over hundred cleaver hits with a single click on my shield. 

The true MVP of this build is ducktape blade of knifes which makes this damage so insane. Every shield triggers every shield while every shield triggers every cleaver and every cleaver triggeres every cleaver. Ducktape puts them all on the same queue and removes the limit of points of contact, making even 3 cleaver on a ducktape more effective than 4 cleaver. With every activation, every cleaver next to the same line of ducktape will get a stack, which leads to 462 extra damage on every cleaver. This will consist for every turn and will ramp up to insane damage for every turn. 

With only 3 shields, the - damage of the relic is pretty much neglegable, but one of my shields has 14 haste and easily cover the armor in a single turn. Especially with no fight actually getting to round to. The beauty about this combination is the cost of only 1 energy to use a set of cleavers instead of the usual 1. Even in an early setup, this is a suuuper powerful setup if you 

 The current hit 151.302 damage. The damage could be optimised by putting my best cleaver with 8 whetstones in another position to manipulate the queue and hit on the highest points of damage. I also want to replace the chefs hats with more cleavers and ducktape to further increase the ramp of the combo. It would also be optimal to pick blue cleaver on the bottom of ducktapes, since they do 1 damage more and their postiioning doesn't matter with ducktape.

I currently don't see an end to this run, since only 2 bosses currently even survive one attack. The HP scaling is rather low to the current powerlevel and even with normal mobs having 400 damage a turn, the armor and hp pool can easily survive an onslaught even if I won't kill an enemy for a turn and the single vampirsm easily heals back the damage that might get through. I will try to go further and want to see how far this goes, but even with fasters animation speed and killing every regular enemy in one hit, every fight can take 2-4 minutes. 

I wish I found this game early. Sadly I missed the kickstarter and the chance to get into the discord :( Great game and potential. Just hope that they will introduce more options for more defensive builds, because only damage can really go through the whole game without luck.
